The Goodmans One Ten is a combined stereo tuner and amplifier launched in 1972, designed in a style influenced by European designs. It features a robust FM tuner with Automatic Frequency Control (AFC) for reliable signal reception, and an amplifier capable of delivering 50 watts per channel into 4 ohms. It includes three inputs: one for standard MM cartridges, another for DIN-standard tape recorders, and an AUX input, which can accommodate a turntable with a ceramic cartridge. While the FM tuner operates without preset stations, it is enhanced by an internal ferrite rod antenna for medium wave (MW) and long wave (LW) reception. Although some users describe its tonal balance as slightly thin, the amplifier delivers a powerful performance with effective noise reduction, although it can be prone to a strident midrange at higher volumes. The internal build quality features well-laid out components with significant attention to design, including good quality reservoir capacitors near the power amplifier. The aesthetics of the One Ten are complemented by multiple cabinet finish options, including teak, rosewood, and all-black variants. Despite certain weaknesses, such as the potential aging issues with resistors and transistors of that era, the unit comes with an excellent service manual that details components and functions. The overall performance is solid, primarily highlighted by its commendable tuner capabilities.
