The JVC Z-3 ED is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge designed primarily for use with stereo systems. It features a shell mount design, making it a suitable choice for upgrading existing setups. The cartridge utilizes an elliptical needle, specifically a Dia Shibatar needle, which enhances tracking accuracy and sound quality. With a rated output of 4.0 mV at a frequency of 1 kHz and a velocity of 5 cm/sec, it delivers a robust audio performance. The frequency response of the Z-3 ED spans from 10 Hz to 30 kHz, ensuring a wide range of audio reproduction. The cartridge requires a proper needle pressure between 1.5g and 2.0g, and it operates with a load resistance of 47k Ω. It has a dead weight of 15.5g, providing a substantial feel when mounted. Additionally, users can replace the needle with the DT-Z3E model, which is available for around ¥5,000.
