Bluesound integrates Dirac Live room calibration into NODE and NODE ICON players via firmware update starting January 14, 2025.
Dirac Live enhances audio playback by correcting room-specific acoustic issues and minimizing phase discrepancies.
Users require a Dirac Live license and a $39 calibration kit for setup, compatible with third-party microphones like the MiniDSP UMIK-1.
Bluesound has expanded its commitment to superior audio performance by integrating the Dirac Live room calibration system into its latest network players. Starting January 14, 2025, users of the Bluesound NODE (N132) and NODE ICON (N530) can access this advanced calibration feature through a system firmware update.
Dirac Live is renowned for its ability to fine-tune audio playback by addressing room-specific acoustic challenges. By reducing frequency peaks and filling in dips, it ensures a balanced and smooth sound profile across the entire audible spectrum. Additionally, Dirac Live minimizes phase discrepancies between speaker drivers, resulting in a cleaner and more cohesive listening experience.
To utilize Dirac Live with Bluesound’s compatible devices, users must acquire both a Dirac Live license and the Bluesound Dirac Live Room Calibration Kit. The calibration kit includes a high-performance omnidirectional microphone capable of capturing frequencies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. This microphone connects to any laptop via a USB-A 2.0 port and operates seamlessly with Windows and MacOS without the need for additional drivers. Alternatively, third-party microphones like the MiniDSP UMIK-1 are also supported.
Dirac offers three licensing options tailored to different calibration needs:
The calibration filters are applied prior to the internal digital-to-analog converter (DAC) in the devices, allowing enthusiasts who prefer external DACs to still benefit from Dirac’s enhancements.
Looking ahead, Bluesound plans to extend Dirac Live support to additional models, including the NODE X (N131), NODE (N130), POWERNODE (N330), and POWERNODE EDGE (N230) by mid-2025. This rollout underscores Bluesound’s dedication to delivering customizable and high-fidelity audio solutions tailored to diverse listening environments.
Matt Simmonds, Bluesound’s Product Manager, highlighted the significant demand for Dirac Live integration. “Dirac Live has been one of the most requested features from our customers due to its unique room-correction methods that result in more transparent, balanced sound, and tighter bass and enhanced clarity,” he stated.
The Bluesound Dirac Live Room Calibration Kit is priced at $39 USD or €45, making advanced room correction accessible to a wide range of audiophiles. With this integration, Bluesound continues to set the standard for high-performance music streaming, offering users unparalleled control over their audio landscapes.
