Rega Brio MK7 Amplifier Unveiled: Compact Powerhouse Redefined

12 March 2025 by Mike Danyk

Rega has enhanced its renowned Brio series with the introduction of the Brio MK7, marking the seventh iteration of the brand’s beloved compact amplifier. Staying true to its lightweight heritage, the Brio MK7 retains its shoe-box form factor while integrating significant upgrades, including a newly added digital-to-analog converter (DAC). This latest version maintains the robust output of twice 50 watts into 8 Ohms and twice 73 watts into 6 Ohms, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of speakers while advising caution with 4 Ohm models to prevent overheating.

The Brio MK7 expands its connectivity by incorporating two digital inputs—optical and coaxial—facilitating high-resolution audio streaming up to 192 kHz and 24-bit from modern sources such as streamers and media players. In conjunction with these additions, Rega has streamlined the analog inputs, dedicating one of the four Cinch inputs exclusively to a turntable equipped with an MM cartridge. The internal architecture has been meticulously revamped, featuring an upgraded PCB layout, higher specification operational amplifiers, and enhanced isolation between the output and signal stages, thereby improving overall audio fidelity and reliability.

Front-facing elements of the Brio MK7 include a series of LEDs indicating the active input source, a compact 3.5mm headphone jack suitable for low-impedance headphones, and a newly implemented auto-standby function that conserves energy by entering standby mode after approximately one hour of inactivity. The power supply is anchored by a ring core transformer, ensuring a clean and stable electrical environment for optimal performance. Additionally, the amplifier comes with a versatile remote control designed to accommodate current and future Rega products, offering essential functions such as power switching and likely source selection and volume adjustment.

Priced at €999, the Rega Brio MK7 is poised to be available in black starting early May 2025. This model solidifies Rega’s commitment to delivering high-quality, compact hi-fi solutions that cater to both analog enthusiasts and modern digital listeners. By integrating advanced digital capabilities without compromising on the brand’s signature simplicity and performance, the Brio MK7 stands out as a versatile choice for discerning audiophiles seeking a reliable and stylish amplification solution.
