TEAC Launches AP-507 Power Amplifier Featuring Advanced Class D Technology – Available Spring 2025

12 February 2025 by Mike Danyk

TEAC has just unveiled the AP-507 Power Amplifier, a compact yet powerful addition to their renowned 500 reference series. Building on the success of the AP-505 released in 2019, the new AP-507 brings significant upgrades in both technology and performance.

At the heart of the AP-507 lies TEAC’s custom-tuned next-generation Hypex NCOREx Class D amplifier module. This fully balanced design incorporates TEAC's in-house developed dual-mono buffer amplifier, aiming for ultra-linear performance with low distortion and high efficiency. The result is a clean, transparent sound that captures every nuance of the music.

One of the standout features of the AP-507 is its versatility. It supports multiple operation modes including Stereo, Bi-Amp, and BTL (Bridge Tied Load) mono modes. In Stereo or Bi-Amp mode, it delivers a robust 170 watts per channel into 4 ohms and 95 watts into 8 ohms. When switched to BTL mode, the power output jumps to an impressive 350 watts into 8 ohms, making it suitable for driving demanding speakers or integrating into an AV surround system.

Complementing the advanced amplifier section is a high-capacity power supply. Each channel is fed by a large toroidal transformer and substantial 18,800 μF capacitors, ensuring stable and ample power delivery even during dynamic peaks.

Despite its formidable capabilities, the AP-507 maintains a compact footprint, roughly the size of a standard piece of A4 paper. This makes it an excellent choice for those looking to build a high-performance audio system without sacrificing space. Its elegant aluminum and steel chassis not only provides durability but also incorporates design elements to minimize vibrations. The 2.8mm thick semi-floating aluminum top plate and 3-point stress-less isolation feet contribute to a purer sound by reducing unwanted resonance.

Visually, the AP-507 carries forward TEAC's signature aesthetic with dual analog VU meters on the front panel. These meters, equipped with a 4-step dimmer and 2-step sensitivity switch, offer both a functional and nostalgic touch, allowing users to monitor the amplifier's performance at a glance.

When compared to its predecessor, the AP-505, the AP-507 offers several improvements. There's a noteworthy increase in power output and a reduction in total harmonic distortion, thanks to the advancements in the NCOREx amplifier technology. The new model also introduces trigger inputs and outputs for enhanced system integration, a feature not present in the AP-505.

It's important to note that the AP-507 is a dedicated power amplifier. To complete the system, pairing it with a suitable preamplifier, such as TEAC's own HA-507 or UD-507, will provide input selection and volume control.

In summary, the TEAC AP-507 Power Amplifier represents a significant advancement in compact high-fidelity audio. Its combination of cutting-edge Class D technology, flexible operation modes, and refined aesthetics makes it a compelling option for audiophiles seeking exceptional sound quality in a space-saving design.

The AP-507 is expected to be available in Spring 2025 through TEAC's website and select dealers. It will come in both silver and black finishes, with a suggested retail price of $2,199 in the USA, €1,899 in the EU, and £1,899 in the UK.
