The Onkyo D-77 FRX is a bookshelf speaker system that represents the 9th generation of the 77 series. It features a three-way, three-speaker bass reflex design, optimized for a wide frequency response range of 25 Hz to 40 kHz. The low range is powered by a 30 cm cone type woofer, constructed from a diaphragm made of North American pulp blended with ascidian fiber for enhanced strength. This woofer utilizes a large magnetic circuit with a 140 mm diameter and a 17 mm thickness, all supported by a die-cast frame to ensure stability even under significant amplitude. The mid-range is handled by a 12 cm cone type squaker, which uses Biocroscone technology, ensuring clarity and minimal distortion within the 700 Hz to 3 kHz range. The high frequencies are delivered by a composite dome tweeter, combining a 2.5 cm aluminum magnesium alloy dome with a 4 cm biconescone for balanced character and high efficiency. The internal circuitry includes separate boards for the woofer, squaker, and tweeter to minimize interference and improve sound quality. The enclosure is made from MDF for natural vibration damping, reinforced at key points, and is designed to minimize external vibrations. Additional features include gold-plated brass speaker terminals and a cabinet with a substantial weight of 25 kg. An optional dedicated speaker stand was available for enhanced stability, with specific design features to further reduce vibration interference.
