The Onkyo TA-2200 is a stereo cassette deck that was introduced in 1989. This model features Dolby B/C and HX-Pro noise reduction technologies, enhancing the playback and recording quality. With a manufacturer suggested retail price of USD $330, it was discontinued in 1991 after two years on the market. The TA-2200 incorporates a dual head design and a digital tape counter with four digits. It offers automatic tape type selection and is compatible with normal, chrome, and metal tapes. The unit employs a belt-driven, single-capstan transport mechanism. Its cassette compartment is front-loaded, located on the left side of the deck, and features mechanical tape eject. The playback tape needs to be oriented correctly in the cassette well for proper function. The deck uses generic digital peak reading meters for level indication. Full-logic transport controls allow for quick and responsive operation, requiring minimal finger contact. The Dolby C system included in the TA-2200 provides significant noise reduction, doubling that of the B-type system above 1,000 Hz. Additionally, the Dolby HX PRO system ensures accurate bias control during recording, resulting in lower distortion and better high-frequency linearity. To prevent issues with FM stereo broadcasts, the unit has a switchable MPX filter that eliminates the 19kHz multiplex pilot signal. For personal listening, the TA-2200 is equipped with a headphone jack and provides RCA connectivity for playback and recording. It also allows for remote operation through a wireless remote control.
