The Onkyo TA-600 is a stereo cassette tape deck that was manufactured between 1978 and 1980. It is designed to enhance basic performance while incorporating various advanced features for an improved user experience. The deck uses an upright loading mechanism that allows users to conveniently check the remaining tape length and track labels. One of its notable features is a detachable door that facilitates maintenance, such as head cleaning. The TA-600 is equipped with a hard WIDEX head made from durable material, which provides approximately ten times more abrasion resistance than traditional permalloy heads. This head type is shielded to reduce the effects of external magnetic fields. The machine employs a DC servo motor, which automatically manages the rotational speed through electronic controls. Users can also benefit from a timer standby feature, allowing automatic recordings and alarm clock playback when paired with an optional timer. Additionally, the cassette deck includes a tape selector for independent bias and equalizer settings, making it compatible with various tape types. The full auto-stop mechanism ensures that the device halts automatically when the tape ends, minimizing wear during recording, playback, or fast-forwarding. The Onkyo TA-600 sports a frequency response of 30 Hz to 14 kHz with Low Noise Tape, and it can reach up to 16 kHz with CrO2 Tape. It has a quick winding time of just 90 seconds for a C-60 tape and a low wow and flutter measurement of 0.1%. With a power consumption of 9.2W, the deck operates on 100 VAC at either 50 or 60 Hz. The dimensions measure 418 mm in width, 158 mm in height, and 294 mm in depth, with a weight of 5.8 kg.
