SME is a British manufacturer of high-end turntables and tonearms.

The SME Series V tonearm is a high-precision tonearm designed for optimal performance with various turntables. It features a rigid aluminum construction, ensuring minimal resonance and maximized sound quality. The arm is fixed at the headshell, which eliminates the need for azimuth adjustments typical of other tonearms with adjustable headshells. However, minor adjustments to the azimuth can be made by slightly loosening the base locking screws and shifting the arm left or right. This allows for precision alignment when needed but typically does not require frequent adjustments due to the manufacturing tolerances, which are extremely tight. The Series V is compatible with a wide range of cartridges due to its effective design and provides excellent tracking ability. Specifications include a length of 300 mm and a weight of approximately 700 grams, with an effective mass that allows it to handle both low and high compliance cartridges efficiently. The tonearm is often paired with high-end cartridges for refined audio reproduction.
