The Sony TA-S 2 is a compact pre-main amplifier from the Component Series, designed to pair with the SS-S2 speaker system. It features a MOS FET in the final stage, which allows for a high input impedance and reduces interference between the driver and output stages. This design philosophy leads to improved sound quality with a simpler circuit structure while effectively suppressing odd-order distortion. The amplifier incorporates the super legato linear system to minimize both switching and crossover distortion. The power supply uses the S.T.D. (Spontaneous Twin Drive) technology, which independently powers the voltage amplifier and power amplifier stages to maintain sound quality even at high output levels. Additionally, the advanced version of this power supply includes an induction coil to reduce voltage fluctuations and a large-capacity capacitor for enhanced performance in the middle and high-frequency ranges. The TA-S 2 also features a source direct switch, which bypasses tone controls for a purer audio stream, and includes a wireless remote control for convenience. Its specifications include an effective power output of 50W + 50W at 6 Ω, a frequency response ranging from 10 Hz to 500 kHz, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 85 dB for phono and 100 dB for line inputs. The compact design boasts dimensions of 310 mm width, 90 mm height, and 360 mm depth, with a weight of approximately 5.5 kg.
