The P 3100 HV preamplifier is an integral component for any high-end audio system. Its primary function is to receive low-level signals from source devices, amplify them, manage volume, process as needed, and then transmit these signals to power amplifiers, all while ensuring that the fidelity of the original signal is preserved without alteration or distortion.
Our design approach for the P 3100 HV involved a meticulous effort to meet these demanding requirements fully. Employing a discrete and fully symmetrical construction, the preamplifier utilizes the finest available components, housed within a case of uncompromising build quality. The conceptual and physical design of the P 3100 HV draws its foundation from its predecessor, the P 3000 HV. Despite outward similarities, significant improvements have been made to the internal circuitry, which substantially enhances the unit's performance.
In previous models such as the P 3000 HV, high-quality capacitors were used to couple the input and output stages to the relay volume control. However, the P 3100 HV features a sophisticated new circuit board layout that compensates for the temperature coefficients of the transistors, enabling precise setting of operating points. This advancement results in pure DC coupling for the preamplifier stages, eliminating the need for coupling capacitors in the signal path between the input stage, volume control, and output stage. The preamplifier board maintains absolute voltage and temperature stability.
Additional enhancements include an upgraded digital power supply with increased power and better shielding. The analog section's already robust toroidal transformer was increased to 115 VA. Collectively, these improvements contribute to a notable enhancement in sound quality, setting the P 3100 HV apart as a leading choice for audio enthusiasts seeking uncompromised performance.
