Leak was originally founded in 1934 by Harold Joseph Leak in London, England, becoming renowned for innovative audio amplifiers and high-fidelity equipment. The company pioneered numerous technologies including the famous Type 15 amplifier (1945) with negative feedback and push-pull triode design, and the groundbreaking Sandwich loudspeaker (1961). Leak products were adopted by prestigious institutions including the BBC, establishing the brand's reputation for technical excellence. After acquisition by Rank Organization in 1969, the brand gradually faded from the market. In 2020, Leak was revived by IAG Group (International Audio Group), the same company that owns Quad, Mission, and other British audio brands. The modern Leak combines classic British styling with contemporary technology, including streaming amplifiers and wireless speakers. IAG's revival strategy focuses on blending Leak's heritage design aesthetic with modern connectivity and functionality, targeting both nostalgic audiophiles and contemporary consumers seeking premium British-designed audio equipment.
