Bose Refreshes SoundLink Line with New Micro Gen 2 and Plus Speakers for Summer 2025
Bose has unveiled two additions to its portable Bluetooth speaker lineup just in time for the summer season: the SoundLink Plus and the SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen). Both speakers come equipped with notable upgrades in sound quality, design, and connectivity to carve their space in a saturated portable audio market.
Measuring 9.1″ wide, 3.9″ high, and 3.4″ deep with a weight of four pounds, the SoundLink Plus is designed for those who want powerful sound in a portable build. It bridges the gap between the mid-range Flex (Gen 2) and the more robust SoundLink Max. Despite its modest size, the SoundLink Plus features a dedicated tweeter, subwoofer, and four passive radiators, offering true stereo separation and impactful bass—rare for speakers in this class.
The build includes a powder-coated steel grille and a silicone-wrapped frame, making it shock-resistant and rust-proof. Its IP67 water-resistance rating means it can survive accidental drops in water and even float, making it ideal for poolside use. With 20 hours of battery runtime, the speaker also acts as a USB-C power bank for charging devices. A rugged utility rope—both functional and stylish—adds another layer of mobility, making it easy to bring this speaker wherever summer takes you.
Offered at $269, the SoundLink Plus will be available in Black, Blue Dusk, and Citrus Yellow. Pre-orders start June 12, 2025, with general availability following shortly after on June 26 via Bose.com.
The second generation of the SoundLink Micro continues Bose’s trend of packing significant audio capability into a remarkably small package. At just 4.06″ x 4.06″ x 1.54″ and under one pound, it’s crafted for on-the-go use. Improved audio is delivered through a single driver paired with dual passive radiators for greater clarity and deeper low-end tones.
New features include 12-hour battery life—doubling its predecessor’s playtime—and USB-C charging, a much-needed step forward from the outdated micro-USB on the original. A removable fabric nylon strap provides versatile mounting options, while the durable, IP67-rated waterproof build ensures its survival during impromptu dives or dusty terrain.
The SoundLink Micro Gen 2 arrives at a price of $129 in Black and Blue Dusk. A global release is planned for later this summer, with availability through Bose.com.
Both new models utilize Bluetooth 5.3 for improved reliability, faster connections, and multipoint pairing, allowing seamless device-switching between two sources. SBC and AAC codecs ensure broad compatibility across iOS and Android devices, while aptX Adaptive support enhances performance for users with select Android phones, balancing high-resolution audio with low latency and energy efficiency.
Control is streamlined via the Bose app, which provides access to firmware updates, EQ settings, and customizable shortcut buttons like Spotify Tap. The app also facilitates pairing in either Stereo Mode—where identical models split channels—or Party Mode, syncing different speakers for an immersive, room-filling sound.
These additions integrate smoothly with Bose’s other SoundLink options, including Flex (Gen 2) and Max models. Furthermore, SimpleSync compatibility allows the new speakers to link with Bose soundbars or smart speakers for even greater versatility.
Bose continues to refine its presence in portable audio with thoughtfully designed options across its updated SoundLink lineup. Whether it’s the balanced performance of the SoundLink Plus or the improved portability of the Micro Gen 2, these speakers underscore Bose’s commitment to enhancing listening experiences with practical, durable, and feature-rich devices.
