Founded in 2012 by Ivo Sparidaens in Eindhoven, Netherlands, Aequo Audio emerged from an R&D project when Sparidaens, a former Royal Dutch Shell industrial plant optimizer with post-master in Tribology, combined his engineering expertise with music production passion. Joined by lifelong friend Paul Rassin (marketing/business development), the company achieved its first commercial release with Ensis loudspeakers in 2016. Sparidaens' breakthrough came from developing proprietary nano-materials using technology similar to graphene and carbon nanotubes, achieving extreme damping and stiffness that revolutionized their speaker construction. The successful Stilla speaker (2018), praised as 'the little giant,' won multiple awards and accelerated growth. In 2023, Aequo moved to a new 1,300m²/14,000 sq.ft advanced factory. Their 2025 releases, Adamantis and Ensium, feature the world's first implementation of Sparidaens' patented nano-composite enclosures. With a team of eight led by Sparidaens (owner/chief designer) and Rassin, Aequo creates speakers with ultra-low baffle diffraction and unprecedented linearity, setting new standards in holographic imaging and soundstaging. Their mission focuses on emotional impact and transporting listeners to the best seat in the venue through perfect time-aligned acoustic shapes and innovative filter technology.
