Founded in March 1974 in Natick, Massachusetts by Roy F. Allison along with former AR colleagues Abe Hoffman, Sumner Bennett, and Frank Callahan, Allison Acoustics specialized in loudspeakers designed for optimal home performance. Roy Allison previously served thirteen years at Acoustic Research (1959-1972) as chief engineer and VP of engineering. The company pioneered room-acoustic speaker design, with the Allison Model One debuting late 1974. Operating from 7 Tech Circle in Natick, Allison produced highly-rated models including the One, Two, Three, and Four series, earning consistent top ratings from audio publications. The Massachusetts recession of 1989-1995 forced closure in 1990 when banks called in loans. Roy Allison continued designing speakers through RDL (Room-Designed Loudspeakers) and later RAL (Roy Allison Labs) as mail-order operations until his passing in 2016.
