Founded in 1927, Altec Lansing was formed in 1941 through merger of Altec Services Company and Lansing Manufacturing Company. Pioneering motion picture sound technology introduced with 'The Jazz Singer,' the company became renowned for professional audio systems including 'Voice of the Theatre' speakers used at Woodstock and major venues worldwide. Billboard Magazine noted more Altec Lansing products in music studios globally than all other brands combined. Ownership changes included James Ling (1958), Gulton Industries, with headquarters moving from Yorba Linda, California to Oklahoma City, then various locations. Acquired by Infinity Group in 2012 for $17.5 million. Currently headquartered in New York City, continuing as manufacturer of headphones, speakers, and audio accessories.
