ASR Audio Systeme was founded in 1980 by Friedrich Schäfer (born 1956) in Herborn, Germany, with their first amplifier produced in 1981. Based in a former military barracks covering ~2,000m², the company employs 10 people including Production Manager Ingo Cuntz and Production Staff Udo Eckhard. ASR specializes in high-end amplifiers, phono stages, and power cords, selling in over 40 countries with distribution split 40% Germany, 30% Asia, 15% USA, and 15% worldwide. Their signature Emitter series combines tube warmth with transistor precision and power, featuring unique acrylic glass housing and external power supplies. Key products include Emitter I & II integrated amplifiers, Mini Basis & Basis phono stages, and Magic Cord series power cables. The company philosophy focuses on combining the best of tube and transistor technologies to capture live performance essence. ASR has been a vinyl supporter since inception, continuing phono amplifier development even when vinyl was considered obsolete. Since 2019, they operate direct sales in Germany while maintaining international distributors. Their 'Emitter at Home' program allows customers to borrow equipment for home evaluation, demonstrating confidence in their products' exceptional sound quality.
