Audio Alchemy was an American high-end audio equipment manufacturer founded in California in 1990 by Mark Schifter, Mel Schilling, and Douglas Goldenberg. The company specialized in cost-effective digital audio equipment, particularly digital-to-analog converters (DACs), CD players, transports, and amplifiers. Audio Alchemy became renowned for making high-quality audio equipment accessible to budget-conscious consumers, with their Digital Decoding Engine (DDE) series becoming particularly popular among audiophiles. The original company dissolved in 1998, was briefly relaunched as Alchemy2 in the early 2000s, then returned as Audio Alchemy in 2015 under Peter Madnick's leadership. On October 6, 2016, Audio Alchemy was acquired by ELAC (Electroacustic GmbH), a German audio manufacturer. Audio Alchemy now operates as a division of ELAC Americas, continuing to produce high-quality audio electronics under the ELAC Alchemy Series brand, including the DDP-2 Preamp/DAC/Streamer, DPA-2 amplifier, and PPA-2 phono preamplifier.
