Beveridge Audio was founded by Harold Beveridge, an electrical engineer who graduated from McGill University and worked at Raytheon (1947-1954) designing vacuum tubes and developing early radar technology. A passionate music lover who attended Boston Philharmonic concerts, Harold created revolutionary electrostatic speakers featuring cylindrical wavefront technology and unique acoustic lenses for 180-degree sound dispersion. The company launched in 1974, producing approximately 200 high-end electrostatic speaker systems priced around $15,000 (late 1970s). Notable clients included Frank Sinatra, Julie Andrews, and Leonard Bernstein. Harold died in 1997, with sons Rick and Bruce Beveridge continuing operations. However, Rick Beveridge has recently succumbed to Alzheimer's disease and was placed in a care facility, effectively ending active operations. The company maintains contact with about 140 owners across 23 countries but no longer produces new systems or provides regular repairs.
