Founded in 1979 in Boston, Massachusetts by Advent veterans Andy Kotsatos and Frank Reed, Boston Acoustics became a respected manufacturer of home and mobile audio equipment. The company built a reputation for producing premium quality speakers at reasonable prices, entering the mobile audio market in 1983. Boston Acoustics supplied OEM equipment to various car manufacturers including Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Chevrolet vehicles. In 2005, the company was acquired by D&M Holdings (later Sound United). Despite being maintained as a brand name by Sound United, Boston Acoustics ceased active production around 2018 and filed for bankruptcy the same year. While Sound United retains the intellectual property and brand name, no new engineering or production is currently planned for Boston Acoustics products.
