The Burmester Ambience BA31 loudspeaker is a floorstanding model that features an innovative 2.5-way design, integrating two Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeters—one front-firing and another rear-firing—to enhance ambient sound for a more immersive listening experience. The cabinet construction involves solid, acoustically decoupled aluminum for the front, finished in options like silver, medium bronzed, or black, while the housing is elaborately braced and available in high-gloss acabados such as makassar, light walnut, dark walnut, or enamel finishes. The speaker includes 170mm impregnated paper cone drivers and a bi-wirable binding post configuration. The crossover frequencies are set at 3kHz for the AMTs and 400Hz for the midrange/bass drivers, allowing for optimum performance in sound reproduction. The BA31 has a nominal sensitivity of 87dB and operates effectively when partnered with amplifiers like the Burmester 032, which delivers 2x170 watts of power. Performance features include deep, transparent bass that extends to a claimed frequency response of 38Hz (-3dB), precise midrange clarity, and sparkling highs. The rear-firing bass reflex port, located above the floor, contributes to a rich soundstage that can be adjusted to suit personal audio preferences.
