Castle Acoustics was established in 1973 by six senior engineers from Wharfedale, founded by John Collinson and William 'Bill' Escott in Skipton, North Yorkshire. Named after the historic 11th century Skipton Castle, the company specialized in high-quality loudspeakers from their Park Mill facility. After facing bankruptcy, Castle was acquired by International Audio Group (IAG) in 2007, becoming part of a portfolio including Wharfedale, QUAD, audiolab, Mission, Leak, and Luxman. In 2023, Castle marked a significant milestone by returning to UK manufacturing with the Windsor series at IAG's new 9000 square foot production facility in Huntingdon. The company maintains its reputation for handcrafted speakers with hand-selected veneers, ensuring each pair is cosmetically unique while delivering exceptional acoustic performance.
