Cerwin-Vega was founded in 1954 by aerospace engineer Eugene J. 'Gene' Czerwinski, originally as Vega Associates, later becoming Vega Laboratories and then Cerwin-Vega. The company became noted for producing an 18″ speaker capable of 130 dB SPL at 30 Hz and released the world's first solid-state amplifier in 1957. Cerwin-Vega supplied speakers for Fender and movie theaters throughout the 1970s, and participated in Sensurround technology with MCA and Universal Studios, earning an Academy Award for Special Technical Achievement. After bankruptcy in 2003, the company was acquired by Stanton Group, then Gibson Guitar Company in 2011. In 2020, Cerwin-Vega Inc. reunited the brand under CVM Acquisition Services, consolidating operations to Los Angeles, California. Currently headquartered at 3761 S Hill St, Los Angeles, CA, the company continues manufacturing professional audio equipment maintaining their 'Making it loud since 1954' reputation.
