Chario was founded in April 1975 in Milan, Italy by Carlo 'Charlie' Vicenzetto and Mario Marcello Murace, both engineers at the University of Milan. The company name is a portmanteau of 'CHArlie' and 'maRIO.' Now led by second-generation Michele Nebel, Chario has grown to become Italy's largest manufacturer of high-performance speakers. Headquartered in Vimercate (20km northeast of Milan) with additional facilities near Vicenza, the company remains one of the few that designs and builds all components in-house, from drivers to cabinets. Using exclusively Italian materials including massive Italian walnut wood, Chario handcrafts loudspeakers with a focus on real-world acoustic performance. The company exports to nearly 40 countries while maintaining its Italian manufacturing heritage.
