Founded in 1980 in Montréal, Canada through a partnership between Mike Viglas and engineer David Reich (officially established 1979), Classé Audio emerged when Viglas, a Greek immigrant and former Ford heavy truck dealer, turned his passion for music into audio business by partnering with Reich, who was building solid-state amplifiers. Their first product, the DR-2 25W stereo amplifier operating in class-A (inspiring the punny company name 'Classé'), launched in 1980. The company quickly earned reputation for reliability and open, natural, authoritative sound. In 2001, Classé became part of Bowers & Wilkins Group with Viglas staying as chairman while Reich had joined Theta Digital. After Viglas retired in 2010 (passing away in 2018 at age 85), the company continued evolving. In 2018, Sound United (parent of Denon, Marantz, Polk, Definitive Technology) acquired Classé along with B&W. Today, Classé maintains its design team in Montréal, continuing the legacy of Canadian audio engineering excellence with their Delta series amplifiers and processors, upholding the founders' vision of class-A operation and uncompromising sound quality that established them as a premier high-end audio brand.
