Creative Technology Ltd., commonly known as Creative Labs, is a Singapore-based multinational electronics company founded on July 1, 1981, by childhood friends Sim Wong Hoo and Ng Kai Wa with an initial capital of S$10,000. Originally starting as a computer repair shop in Pearl's Centre in Chinatown, the company revolutionized the PC audio industry. The company is globally renowned for creating the Sound Blaster sound card, which launched in 1989 and became the de facto standard for PC audio. Sound Blaster 1.0 was the first to bundle digital audio, on-board music synthesizer, MIDI interface, and joystick port into a single sound card system. Over 400 million Sound Blaster units have been sold worldwide. Creative's success grew from US$5.4 million revenue in 1989 to US$658 million in 1994. The company went public on NASDAQ in 1992 and is also listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) since 1994. Today, Creative operates 30 global subsidiaries with distribution networks in over 80 countries, specializing in digital entertainment products including gaming headsets, speakers, headphones, webcams, and innovative audio solutions. Following founder Sim Wong Hoo's death in January 2023, Freddy Sim (his brother) was appointed as CEO in May 2025, ensuring family leadership continuity.
