Crown Audio is a pioneering American manufacturer of professional power amplifiers and audio electronics, founded in 1947 by Clarence C. Moore in Elkhart, Indiana. Originally established as International Radio and Electronics Corporation (IREC) in a converted chicken coop, the company initially built rugged tape recorders for missionaries in remote regions. Crown transitioned to amplifier manufacturing in 1959 and invented their first solid-state amplifier (SA 20-20) in 1964. The company holds over 60 patents in amplifier technology and serves as the leading manufacturer of power amplifiers and systems control products for professional audio markets worldwide. Crown became part of Harman International in 2000 and is now owned by Samsung Electronics (since 2017). Known internationally as both Crown and AMCRON (in UK markets), the company specializes in amplifiers for live sound, installed sound systems, portable PA, cinema, recording studios, and touring applications.
