Dayton Wright was a pioneering manufacturer of electrostatic loudspeakers, originally based in the USA as Wright/St.George Laboratories Inc., later established as Dayton Wright Associates Limited in Canada. Founded by William Wright, who started Wright Electroacoustics while at M.I.T. to employ other students in building equipment. The company became notable for developing full-range electrostatic speakers using hermetically sealed compartments filled with gas five times the weight of air, allowing more powerful sound reproduction than typical electrostatic designs. They gained recognition through major projects like supplying 50 pairs of speakers for Canada's first IMAX theater in Toronto. The company was known for technical innovation in electrostatic speaker technology and operated with integrated Canadian business operations. While the original company is no longer active, the Dayton Wright legacy continues through modern revivals like the Lemay Audio-manufactured Dayton Wright Hommage.
