Ferguson Electronics was originally an American-Canadian company making radio sets for the UK market, becoming Ferguson Radio Corporation post-WWII. Acquired by Thorn Electrical Industries in the late 1950s, continuing under Thorn EMI ownership. During its peak in the 1960s-80s, Ferguson offered comprehensive audio and TV equipment ranges from portable transistor radios to elaborate radiograms with Garrard turntables, hi-fi systems, tape recorders, and CD players. Facing competition from Japanese brands, it was sold to French company Thomson in 1987. After various licensing arrangements through DSI/Dixons and Comet (until 2012), the Ferguson brand was revived in 2017 by British manufacturer Cello Electronics, now producing televisions in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
