Founded in June 1949 when S. Nishimura and H. Shinohara established Shinano Onkyo Institute in Shibuya, Tokyo to manufacture loudspeakers, Foster Electric has become one of the world's largest OEM manufacturers of transducers and speakers. In June 1973, the company established Fostex as its consumer-facing brand to market high-quality speaker components directly to consumers and dealers in Japan. Today, Foster Electric employs over 20,000 people across nine countries/territories and is traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The company operates through two main segments: the Speaker segment (automotive and flat-screen TV speakers) and Mobile Audio segment (headsets, headphones, micro speakers, vibration actuators). Through Fostex, they offer digital multitrack recording equipment, loudspeaker drivers, studio monitors, microphones, and headphones. The T50RP headphone has become popular in modification circles, while the 6301B remains the world's best-selling small powered monitor speaker for broadcast after twenty years.
