The McIntosh C39 is an advanced audio/video control center that integrates various audio and video processing capabilities specifically designed for a complete home theater setup. It boasts a total of six audio channels and is equipped with Dolby Pro Logic™ decoding circuits to effectively reproduce movie soundtracks encoded with Dolby Surround™ technology. The C39 also includes features for enhancing sound reproduction, such as the McIntosh 'HALL' signal processing circuits, which provide a more immersive listening experience by manipulating the audio signals for better separation and surround sound effects. Additionally, users can enjoy the possibility of extending their setup with an optional McIntosh THX-M Module, which enhances the audio fidelity and conforms to THX standards for home theaters.

The C39 has integrated calibration tools including a built-in noise generator to aid in volume level calibration across all six channels, helping to set up a balanced sound environment.
