Mirage is a legendary Canadian loudspeaker manufacturer founded in 1977 (originally 1979) in Toronto by Jeff Percy, Jeff Soltysek, and Patrick Dempster, with original designs by renowned engineer Kevin Voecks (later of Revel and Snell Acoustics). Operating under parent company Audio Products International (API) founded in 1973, Mirage pioneered revolutionary 'omnipolar' technology delivering 360-degree sound dispersion (30% direct, 70% reflected sound). The company achieved major breakthroughs including the world's first bipolar speaker M-1 (1987), ranked 'speaker of the decade' by Absolute Sound magazine (1989), and the first pure titanium hybrid tweeter. Following Klipsch Group's acquisition of API in August 2006 and subsequent ownership by Audiovox in 2011, the Mirage brand suffered decline and effective discontinuation despite its storied history of over 200 speaker models sold in 50+ countries. In 2023, Oscar Bernardo (former Klipsch COO and MBA from University of Western Ontario) purchased the iconic Mirage brand with plans to restore its innovative status, though progress has been limited since his appointment as President of Global Operations at Klipsch Group in August 2024, leaving the brand's revival uncertain.
