Founded in 1951 in Switzerland by Stefan Kudelski, a 22-year-old Polish inventor studying at EPFL who created the revolutionary first-ever portable audio recorder named 'Nagra' (meaning 'it will record' in Polish), the company became legendary in professional audio recording. Originally part of the Kudelski Group, Nagra recorders gained worldwide recognition in broadcasting and cinematography, earning two Academy Awards in 1978 and 1991 for contributions to film technology. In 2012, Stefan Kudelski's children acquired the audio division from the Kudelski Group and formed Audio Technology Switzerland S.A., now headquartered at Chemin de l'Orio 30A, 1032 Romanel-sur-Lausanne, near Lake Geneva. The company operates in three principal sectors: high-end Hi-Fi equipment (launched in 1997 with the PL-P vacuum tube phono preamplifier), professional audio recorders for broadcast/cinema/music industries, and security/law enforcement devices. With 11-50 employees led by CEO Pascal Mauroux and including key personnel like CTO Pascal Macquat, Head of R&D Thierry Frank, and Export Manager Tanguy Lemaire, Nagra maintains Swiss manufacturing excellence as the first company in Switzerland to use CNC machines. The company serves over 30 countries worldwide, continuing the legacy of precision engineering and innovation that made Nagra recorders essential tools for professionals from Hollywood studios to broadcast journalism, while expanding into the audiophile market with their acclaimed high-end Hi-Fi equipment that embodies the same commitment to audio perfection.
