Ophidian Audio Limited, founded in 2011 by British loudspeaker designer Gareth James, is an award-winning boutique Hi-Fi manufacturer based in The Wirral, Merseyside, England, specializing in handcrafted, high-performance British-built loudspeakers. Operating as a sole-proprietor business where founder Gareth James serves as the only full-time employee, personally designing, assembling, shipping, and supporting all speakers with over 25 years of design expertise gained from his teenage obsession with audio that began with inherited Sansui speakers and evolved through studying audio visual systems at Salford University. The company's signature innovation is the unique AEROFLEX bass topology, Gareth James's proprietary hybrid of ported and transmission line technology designed to achieve low port velocity, free-breathing dynamic response, and well-timed bass reproduction from both small and large cabinets. Ophidian's current product range spans five models from the compact Minimo 2 micro-monitor at £1,100 to the flagship Voodoo floorstanders at £16,000, with recent additions including the Ffion model (named after James's daughter) at £8,500. Every cabinet is hand-built in Sheffield, England, with final assembly and quality checking completed at Ophidian headquarters in The Wirral, ensuring each speaker meets the company's 'musically defined' philosophy while serving both UK and international markets through 12 domestic and 12 international authorized dealers.
