The Pioneer PC-550 E/II is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge designed for use in turntables, produced between 1976 and 1981 in Japan. It features a titanium pipe cantilever with a thickness of 25 μm and an outer diameter of 0.35 mm, which contributes to a lightweight and efficient vibration system. The cartridge employs a single-end support system that effectively separates the suspension and damper, minimizing mechanical impedance at high frequencies. The stylus tip is made from natural diamond, polished to an elliptical shape measuring 0.3x0.7 mil. Its construction includes a rare earth cobalt magnet that offers high magnetic energy in a lightweight design, paired with a ferrite yoke to enhance frequency response and reduce distortion.
