The Sanyo FMT-401 is an FM/AM tuner designed with advanced features for enhanced audio performance. It utilizes a PLL (Phase Locked Loop) circuit in its FM section, which contributes to its stability and sound quality. The tuner employs a low-noise, high-linearity FET in its FM front-end, alongside a frequency linear 3-row varicon to ensure low input dependency and high sensitivity of 1.9 μV. The input resistance is rated at 120 dB with a distortion factor of 0.2%. The IF section includes a 4-element linear phase filter and a 3-stage differential-amplified monolithic IC that optimize phase characteristics, which collectively help in achieving low distortion through a wide-band quadrature detector. It features an LC carrier leak filter to prevent beat failure during FM air checks and is equipped with a sizable 60 φ flywheel for improved dial travel. In terms of specifications, the FM tuner section includes a capture ratio of 1.0dB, effective selectivity of 60dB, an image interference ratio also at 60dB, and an AM suppression ratio of 55dB. The signal-to-noise ratio is rated at 70dB for mono and 66dB for stereo use, with stereo separation at 40dB (measured at 400Hz). Distortion levels are specified as 0.15% for mono and 0.2% for stereo. The AM section has a sensitivity of 300 μV/m and selectivity of 30dB with a distortion factor of 0.4%. The device is powered via a 100 VAC supply and consumes 9W of power. External dimensions are measured at 400mm in width, 128mm in height, and 305mm in depth, not including the bar antenna, with a weight of 4.8kg.
