Founded in 1948 by Willi Studer in Zürich, Switzerland, Studer established itself as an iconic professional audio brand through precision engineering and innovative mixing console design. Starting with modified Ampex tape recorders in 1949, the company developed its own Dynavox series by 1950, with Willi Studer personally building the first mixing desk in 1958 when the company consisted of only 4-5 people. Under Studer's leadership until his death in 1996, the company revolutionized professional audio through 60 years of industry innovation, creating products that became legendary in recording studios and broadcast facilities worldwide. After extensive reorganization, Harman International Industries acquired Studer in March 1994, modernizing the brand with digital Vista mixing console series featuring the revolutionary Vistonics user interface with knobs-on-glass technology introduced in 2003. In February 2021, Canadian broadcast equipment manufacturer Evertz Microsystems acquired the Studer brand from Harman, continuing manufacturing of Vista 1, V, and X consoles from their Burlington, Ontario facilities. While products are still designed in Regensdorf, Switzerland, maintaining the Swiss heritage of precision engineering, Evertz has invested in developing next-generation products and creating synergies between current product suites. As part of Evertz's portfolio, Studer continues its legacy as a premier designer and manufacturer of professional audio mixing systems for broadcast and production applications, serving recording studios, broadcast facilities, and live production environments globally through over 70 years of audio engineering excellence.
