Founded in 1975 as a project by Tokyo-based Pioneer Electronic Corporation to develop high-end speakers for professional use, Technical Audio Devices (TAD) was spun off as Technical Audio Devices Laboratories, Inc. (TADL) on October 1, 2007, under the leadership of President Shinji Tarutani. Headquartered at Bunkyo Green Court 2-28-8, Honkomagome, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-0021, with a US office in Torrance, California, TAD represents the only Japanese high-end audio manufacturer specializing in both audio components and speaker systems. The company's founding philosophy, influenced by renowned audio engineer Bart Locanthi, emphasizes that 'genuine technology is true to the basics and places greater importance on sound quality than technology for its own sake.' Operating from two locations—Pioneer's facility in Kawagoe-shi, Saitama Prefecture (electronic components) and Tendō-shi, Yamagata Prefecture (speakers)—every TAD product is hand-assembled by certified artisans with uncompromising attention to detail. The breakthrough TD-4001 compression driver, unveiled at the AES convention in 1978, established TAD's reputation in professional audio, finding its way into legendary recording studios including AIR Studios, Capitol Records, and Record Plant. With over 40 years of engineering expertise inherited from Pioneer's audio heritage dating back to 1937, TAD continues pursuing their mission to discover technologies that perfectly recreate the pure sound of live performances, guided by their artistic philosophy 'The Artistic Intent, Intact,' serving both professional recording industries and discerning audiophiles worldwide.
