Founded in March 1945 as Polish Radio Speaker Factory in Poznan, Tonsil is Poland's oldest and most renowned audio equipment manufacturer. Renamed Tonsil in 1960, the company joined UNITRA in 1961 and held a monopoly on electroacoustic transducers in Poland until 1989. Based in Września, Tonsil gained international success in the 1970s-80s, manufacturing for brands like Wharfedale, Mission, Sony, Denon, and Grundig. Their flagship Altus series, launched in 1979, remains legendary in Polish acoustics. Currently led by Sławomir Wieszczeciński, Tonsil produces loudspeakers, microphones, industrial sound systems, and Bluetooth audio devices, while collaborating with Adam Mickiewicz University and the Polish Academy of Sciences on acoustic research.
