Townshend Audio is a British ultra-high-end audio equipment manufacturer established in 1975 by Max Townshend, an Australian-born engineer who brought innovative 'Bush engineering' and scientific knowledge to the HiFi industry. Originally founded in Sydney to market long-contact parabolic diamond styli for record players, the company relocated to the UK in 1978. For nearly five decades, Townshend Audio has been renowned for breakthrough innovations including the legendary Rock turntable with its dampening 'Trough', the Glastonbury loudspeaker, and pioneering seismic isolation technology. The company is particularly famous for its Seismic Isolation System, which dramatically improves sound quality by breaking the acoustic connection between audio systems and structural vibrations. Current product lines include seismic isolation devices (pods, podiums, platforms, corners), Fractal™ treated cables, Allegri Reference preamplifiers, Maximum Supertweeters, and various audio accessories. Max Townshend, a multiple patent holder, passed away on December 31, 2021, at age 78, but the company continues operations under the direction of Harriet Townshend and maintains its position as a leader in high-end audio innovation.
