Founded in 2003 by industry veterans Tom Hannaher (Best Buy, Advent, Apple Computer, Cambridge SoundWorks) and George Samuels (Ohm, EPI, Genesis, Cambridge SoundWorks), ZVOX Audio revolutionized TV sound with dialogue-clarifying technology. Tom Hannaher, who grew up in Fargo, North Dakota where his father worked as disc jockey at KVOX radio, named the company ZVOX (changing K to Z from KVOX). In 2004, ZVOX introduced the ZVOX 315, which CNET called the first commercially successful soundbar. Responding to the crisis of incomprehensible TV dialogue, the company introduced AccuVoice® technology in 2012, using hearing aid technology to make voices clear even at low volumes. Their 2016 AccuVoice AV200 was the first product focused entirely on dialogue enhancement. Current models feature up to 12 levels of voice enhancement, combining AccuVoice and SuperVoice technologies that significantly reduce background noise. The technology has been so successful that many users no longer need closed-captioning. ZVOX's award-winning AccuVoice technology lifts voices above sound effects and music, making dialogue clear and easy to understand. The company continues innovating in voice clarification from their U.S. base, helping millions enjoy frustration-free TV experiences.
