Founded in 2011 in Paris, France by Damien Plisson, Audirvāna emerged from a passion project born out of disappointment with existing digital music playback solutions. Plisson, a highly talented developer trained at École Centrale Paris and UCLA (Master of Science in Computer Science), created the first version for macOS to bypass Mac's default audio parameters and provide straight-to-DAC access. The inspiration came from a 56-CD boxed set by pianist Aldo Cicciolini - after ripping the discs, Plisson found existing 'audiophile' playback solutions technically questionable with poor listening quality. His demonstrator software, shared online, was downloaded over 60,000 times with extremely positive feedback, leading to commercial release in 2011. Initially macOS-only to improve iTunes' sonic performance, Audirvāna has evolved into the reference solution for professionals and enthusiasts expecting uncompromised digital music playback. The current platform (Studio and Origin versions) was released in 2021, updated in 2022 with radios, podcasts, Chromecast audio, and more features. With their 'Plāys with Audirvāna' certification program launched in 2023 and Linux version in 2024, this fully independent software company continues pushing boundaries in high-quality digital audio reproduction.
