Founded in 1972 in Woodbridge, Connecticut by eponymous founder Mark Levinson, Mark Levinson Audio Systems became synonymous with American high-end audio excellence. Original products were designed by John Curl under Levinson's supervision. After financial troubles in 1980, Levinson left in 1984, founding Cello Ltd., Red Rose Music, and later Daniel Hertz S.A. in Switzerland (2007). Since 1990, the Mark Levinson brand has been owned by Harman International Industries (now Samsung Electronics subsidiary). The brand continues producing premium amplifiers, preamps, DACs, and integrated systems, maintaining its reputation for exceptional build quality and sonic performance. Manufacturing moved from Connecticut to various locations under Harman ownership, but the Mark Levinson name remains one of the most respected in high-end audio, representing decades of innovation in American audio engineering and luxury hi-fi components for discerning audiophiles worldwide.
