NAD Electronics was founded in 1972 by Dr. Martin L. Borish, an electrical engineer with a PhD in physics, when European audio importers became frustrated with Japanese HiFi marketing hype. NAD stands for 'New Acoustic Dimension' and was initially headquartered in London, UK. The company was acquired by AudioNord (Denmark) in 1991, then sold to The Lenbrook Group of Pickering, Ontario, Canada in 1999. NAD's breakthrough product was the NAD 3020 amplifier by Bjørn Erik Edvardsen, which became the best-selling hi-fi amplifier in history. Other notable innovations include the world's first Dolby C cassette deck (6100) and early premium CD players. Currently headquartered near Toronto, Canada, NAD produces amplifiers, AV receivers, music streamers, and BluOS-enabled products, sold in over 80 countries.
