Astell&Kern is set to captivate audiophiles once again with the unveiling of the A&ultima SP4000 at High End Munich 2025. Building on the success of its predecessor, the SP3000, the SP4000 boasts a meticulously refined Octa audio circuit architecture, promising unparalleled sonic purity and power. This latest flagship DAP features a dedicated AK4191 digital modulator paired with an individual AK4499EX DAC for each channel, effectively eliminating shared pathways and minimizing noise interference. The result is a true Quad DAC setup that delivers exceptionally clean and detailed audio, setting a new standard for high-end digital audio players.

The A&ultima SP4000 stands out not just for its impressive internals but also for its robust build quality. Available in sleek silver or black, the player incorporates Any Layer HDI PCB technology and a 99.9% pure copper shield can, ensuring minimal signal loss and maximum resistance to electromagnetic interference. These enhancements are complemented by a low noise LDO regulator, which reduces noise by 97% compared to previous models, ensuring that every note is rendered with pristine clarity. Additionally, the player’s 6-inch 2160×1080 touch screen offers a visually engaging interface, enhanced by Astell&Kern’s latest UI 4.5, which provides a more intuitive and aesthetically pleasing user experience.

Embracing full Android support, the SP4000 allows users to access the Google Play Store directly, eliminating the need for sideloading apps and ensuring seamless integration with popular streaming services like Qobuz and TIDAL. A&K’s proprietary ADP technology bypasses traditional SRC limitations, delivering bit-perfect, lossless playback that audiophiles demand. The inclusion of second-generation Digital Audio Remaster (DAR) technology and Enhanced Signal Alignment (ESA) ensures that group delay is minimized, resulting in a more cohesive and immersive soundstage.

Power management has also seen significant improvements with the SP4000. The dual OPAMP configuration in High Driving Mode provides a wider soundstage and more dynamic punch without introducing additional noise, catering to even the most demanding headphone setups. Features like aptX Adaptive and LDAC support facilitate high-quality wireless playback, while BT Sink mode allows the player to function as a high-end Bluetooth DAC, enhancing its versatility. Coupled with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, the SP4000 offers around ten hours of continuous playback, making it a reliable companion for extended listening sessions.

In addition to its technical prowess, the SP4000 is complemented by a luxurious shrunken calf leather case from Germany’s Perlinger tannery, adding an element of refined elegance. As Astell&Kern continues to push the boundaries of digital audio technology, the A&ultima SP4000 emerges as a formidable contender in the DAP market, offering audiophiles a sophisticated and powerful tool to experience music in its purest form. Pricing and availability details are anticipated to be revealed closer to the release, but the advanced features and premium build suggest that the SP4000 will be a sought-after device for discerning listeners.
