Astell&Kern Unveils the PS10 Digital Audio Player at CanJam Singapore 2025

2 April 2025 by Mike Danyk

Astell&Kern continues to set the standard in the high-end Digital Audio Player (DAP) market with the introduction of the PS10. Making its global debut at CanJam Singapore in April 2025, the PS10 represents a significant shift in the company's product lineup, emphasizing network streaming capabilities without compromising on the renowned audio fidelity. Priced at $2,500 USD, the PS10 includes a sophisticated docking cradle that seamlessly integrates the device into home audio systems, supporting active loudspeakers and high-resolution streaming through multiple codecs such as 32-bit PCM, DSD, and LDAC, alongside compatibility with Roon.

At the core of the PS10's performance is Astell&Kern’s HEXA audio circuitry, featuring four AKM AK4498EX DACs and two AK4191EQ chips. This advanced design minimizes digital signal noise and ensures superior audio clarity by processing analog signals separately. Unlike traditional DAPs that use a single DAC for both balanced and single-ended outputs, the PS10 employs independent dual audio circuits. This separation allows for optimal audio performance regardless of the output used, eliminating the signal degradation typically caused by switching and amplification processes in other devices.

The PS10 is engineered with impedance-adaptive dual amplifiers, catering to a wide range of headphones and earphones. The Normal Gain AMP is tailored for lower impedance devices, delivering delicate and high-purity sound, while the High Gain AMP handles higher impedance headphones with greater dynamic range and clarity. This dual-amplifier setup is complemented by the Smart Gain feature, which automatically matches the appropriate amplifier based on the connected device's impedance, ensuring an optimal listening experience without manual adjustments.

Connectivity options in the PS10 are robust, featuring 256GB of internal memory expandable via microSD cards up to 2TB, dual-band Wi-Fi, DLNA networking, and USB-C for data transfer and charging. Additionally, the PS10 can function as an external DAC through Bluetooth or a direct USB connection to PCs. The device supports high-resolution playback up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512, with an LED ring around the power button indicating the current bit rate. Enhanced features like crossfeed settings, ReplayGain, and comprehensive Bluetooth codec support (aptX HD, LHDC, LDAC) provide audiophiles with versatile and customizable listening options.

The PS10's design, inspired by the 'Contrast Cube,' combines stainless steel and glass for a sleek, modern appearance while ensuring intuitive one-handed operation. The replacement of the traditional volume wheel with buttons contributes to a minimalist aesthetic and improved user interaction. With a high-capacity 5,770 mAh battery offering up to 15 hours of playback and support for Power Delivery 3.0, the PS10 balances portability with powerful performance. This new model not only reinforces Astell&Kern's commitment to audio excellence but also offers a competitive alternative to dedicated high-end network streamers, making it a compelling choice for discerning listeners.
