25 April 2025 by Mike Danyk

Bowers & Wilkins has unveiled the PX7 S3, the latest iteration in their acclaimed line of over-ear wireless headphones. Building on the success of the PX7 S2e, the S3 version introduces significant enhancements in both active noise cancellation (ANC) and sound quality. Engineers have meticulously upgraded the 40-millimeter biocellulose drivers, refining the coil, suspension, and magnets to deliver a more accurate and dynamic audio experience with reduced coloration and distortion.

The PX7 S3 distinguishes itself as the first Bowers & Wilkins headphones to incorporate discrete headphone amplifiers in each earcup. This advancement ensures a more robust and energetic sound profile, catering to audiophiles seeking high-resolution audio. Additionally, the ANC system has been revamped with eight microphones strategically placed to monitor the drivers, assess ambient noise, and capture voice inputs, striking a balance between effective noise blocking and maintaining a natural listening environment.

Connectivity options have also been expanded in the PX7 S3. Alongside support for established codecs like SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Adaptive, and aptX HD, the new model now includes aptX Lossless and LC3, ensuring compatibility with the latest high-fidelity streaming services such as Qobuz and Tidal. The introduction of Auracast broadcast capabilities and future support for spatial audio via firmware updates further enhance the versatility of these headphones. Users can also opt for wired listening through a 3.5mm jack or USB-C port, accommodating various audio sources.

Comfort and usability have not been overlooked in the redesign. The PX7 S3 features a slimmer, more ergonomic headband and memory foam ear cushions that provide a secure and comfortable fit for extended listening sessions. Physical controls for volume, playback, and a customizable quick action button have been redesigned for better tactile feedback, complemented by an updated mobile app that offers a five-band EQ for personalized sound profiles.

With a battery life of up to 30 hours with ANC active and a quick charge feature that adds seven hours of playback from just fifteen minutes of charging, the PX7 S3 is designed for long-lasting performance. Available in anthracite black, indigo blue, and canvas white, the headphones come with a compact carrying case and are priced at approximately 430 euros in Europe. The PX7 S3 sets a new standard for wireless headphones, blending advanced technology with superior sound quality to meet the discerning needs of audiophiles.
