Philips GamePix 800: A New Projector Designed for Gamers

25 March 2025 by Mike Danyk

Philips has introduced the GamePix 800, a new projector tailored for gamers seeking low input lag and vibrant visuals. Positioned below the existing GamePix 900, the 800 model offers a native 1080p resolution with a peak brightness of 2,500 lumens, significantly brighter than its 900 counterpart's 1,000 lumens. Despite both models utilizing pixel-shifting technology to emulate higher resolutions, the GamePix 900 can output a 4K video signal, although it does not deliver native UHD quality.

The GamePix 800 supports a 120 Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth gameplay with an impressive input lag of just eight milliseconds. Its contrast ratio stands at 1,500:1, and it covers 98% of the Rec.709 color space, providing rich and accurate colors. The projector is equipped with an LED light source, promising a lifespan of approximately 30,000 hours. Users can project images up to 150 inches diagonally, making it suitable for both small and large gaming setups.

HDR10 support enhances the dynamic range of the visuals, although the HDR performance on projectors typically does not match that of high-end TVs. Connectivity options include two HDMI ports, USB, and RS232, allowing for versatile setup configurations. While the integrated 5-watt speakers offer basic sound, pairing the projector with an external AVR or soundbar is recommended for a more immersive audio experience.

Running on Google TV, the GamePix 800 provides access to a wide range of apps through the Play Store, including popular streaming services like Disney+, Prime Video, and YouTube. Manual focus adjustment and keystone correction features ensure that the image remains sharp and properly aligned regardless of the installation environment.

The pricing for the GamePix 800 has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be in a similar range to the GamePix 900, which launched at €699. Weighing 4.3 kilograms and measuring 302 x 218 x 99 millimeters, the GamePix 800 is a compelling option for gamers considering a projector-based setup, provided they have the necessary space and equipment to complement its capabilities.
