Sigberg Audio Unveils the Saranna: A New Benchmark for Active Speakers

17 March 2025 by Mike Danyk

Sigberg Audio continues to make strides in the high-end audio market with the introduction of their first active stand speaker, the Saranna. Established in 2020, the Norwegian company has built a reputation for compact active speakers and subwoofers, and the Saranna marks a significant expansion into larger format speakers without compromising their commitment to quality.

At the heart of the Saranna is a robust 600-watt amplification per speaker, ensuring ample power for dynamic sound reproduction. The front of the speaker features a coaxial driver setup, integrating a 20-centimeter midrange driver with a compression driver and horn, reminiscent of designs seen in renowned models like the KEF and Technics SC-CX700. This configuration is complemented by two sizable 20-centimeter bass drivers positioned on the rear, each capable of handling frequencies from 25 Hz to 150 Hz. A rectangular bass reflex port above the base further enhances low-frequency performance, while the rear placement of the bass drivers is optimized for ideal performance with just 10 to 20 centimeters of wall clearance.

One of the standout features of the Saranna is its innovative use of slits in the side walls to achieve a cardioid directivity pattern. This design ensures that sound is predominantly projected forward, minimizing unwanted reflections from side and rear surfaces. By eschewing complex digital signal processing in favor of precise acoustic engineering, Sigberg Audio maintains a pure and uncolored sound signature. Additionally, the Saranna offers a variety of connectivity options, including analog (XLR and Cinch) and digital (AES, coaxial, and optical) inputs, catering to diverse audio setups.

The Saranna is designed to offer exceptional flexibility in placement, even in environments where space is at a premium. Sigberg Audio recommends a wall distance of 15 to 50 centimeters, allowing the speakers to deliver a precise bass response and expansive soundstage without necessitating large, cumbersome setups. Users can also tailor the sound to their room’s acoustics through three preset configurations accessible on the back of the speaker, along with a 9-band equalizer available via USB connection.

Priced at €21,665 per pair, the Saranna is available for pre-order starting March 18, 2025, with delivery anticipated in August 2025. Consumers can choose between elegant black and pristine white finishes, and early adopters ordering by May 1, 2025, will benefit from a discounted rate of €19,360 per pair. With its blend of technical prowess and thoughtful design, the Sigberg Audio Saranna is poised to become a standout choice for audiophiles seeking uncompromised performance in a stand-mounted configuration.
