Sony Slashes PlayStation VR2 Price by €150 Starting March 2025

1 March 2025 by Mike Danyk

Sony has initiated a substantial price reduction for the PlayStation VR2, decreasing the recommended retail price from €599.99 to €449.99 starting March 2025. This notable 150 Euro drop contrasts with Sony's typical pricing tactics during the current console generation, where price adjustments have generally leaned towards increases rather than decreases.

The decision appears to be a strategic response to underwhelming sales figures and ongoing feedback highlighting a scarcity of engaging VR titles. Despite the PlayStation VR2's cutting-edge hardware, the lack of a diverse and compelling game library has been a significant hurdle. Developers and publishers have reportedly favored more prevalent platforms, such as the Meta Quest series, which has impacted the VR2's market performance.

For PC enthusiasts, the PlayStation VR2 remains compatible with SteamVR through a separately available adapter priced at €59.99. However, this setup does not support many of the exclusive features that make the PS VR2 distinct, potentially limiting its functionality and appeal on the PC platform despite the reduced cost.

In addition to the standalone headset, Sony is offering a bundle that includes the PlayStation VR2 and the game "Horizon Call of the Mountain" for the same lowered price of €449.99. This package not only provides the essential hardware components, including the VR2 Sense controllers and stereo headphones, but also adds value with a game code, making it an attractive option for consumers.

The industry now watches to see if this price adjustment can reverse the PlayStation VR2's sales trajectory. While the hardware has received acclaim for its performance and innovation, the initial shortcomings in software offerings have been a critical barrier. With upcoming game releases poised to enhance the VR experience, the price reduction may serve as the catalyst needed to drive broader adoption and unlock the headset's full potential.
